During the 2011-2012 fiscal year, 20,946 volunteer hours were completed at the Food Bank! These hours are valued at $350,330. This is the equivalent of 10 full-time employees. 
Volunteer Opportunities
BackPack Assembly  -  Pack emergency weekend food for kids in need who are enrolled in the Food Bank's BackPack program. (Two packing events are conducted each week throughout the year. 14-40 volunteers are needed at each event.)
 
Distribution Center  -  Sort donated food. Case lot sorted food for distribution to the Food Bank's agency partners. Repack bulk food donated by manufacturers into family-friendly sized packaging. (The volunteer activities in the distribution center are ongoing. They are available for individual volunteers or groups.)

Volunteer Policies and Procedures

I understand and agree that submitting this application does not automatically register me as a Food Bank for the Heartland volunteer, and that there may be certain qualifications I must meet, including the acceptance of established volunteer policies and procedures before I may begin volunteering
PLEASE NOTE:
Anyone volunteering in the warehouse must wear closed-toe shoes.
Volunteers must be 16 years old or older to volunteer at Food Bank for the Heartland.  Children ages 12-16 may be allowed to volunteer for certain projects when accompanied by an adult.
Volunteers are welcome to bring a snack and beverage with them. Food and open beverages are not allowed in the warehouse, but refrigerator space is provided in the break room.
CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT and WAIVER:
I do hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Food Bank for the Heartland for any claims or caused of action that may arise out of performance of my assigned duties.  I waive any right of action I have against the Food Bank for the Heartland in consideration of my participation as a volunteer for the Food Bank.
