8th Annual Strike Out Hunger Food & Funds Drive

June 2 – 27, 2014

WHAT: A food and funds drive structured as a friendly competition among local businesses to determine who can generate the most food and funds. Awards are given to Most Overall Donated and Most Donated Per Employee. The public can participate by donating at metro-area Baker's locations or online.

WHY: The summer months are when the Food Bank typically sees a drop in food and monetary donations. Strike Out Hunger helps raise much needed resources while increasing hunger awareness

HOW: Monetary donations can be made the month of June through the Food Bank’s Virtual Food Drive. Participating businesses are also given 10 days to collect non-perishable food donations.

Food Bank for the Heartland distributes food to 285 different non-profit organizations in Nebraska and western Iowa including pantries, meal providers, emergency shelters and after school programs. Approximately 211,000 people are considered at-risk for hunger in the Food Bank’s service area. 86,000 are children under the age of 18.

For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can distribute enough food for three meals.

To date, Strike Out Hunger has generated $149,350 in financial contributions and 85,656 pounds of food donations. This is the equivalent to providing approximately 519,000 meals.
