More than 325 pantries, emergency shelters and other nonprofit organizations rely on food from Food Bank for the Heartland to meet their clients’ needs. Whether they serve 30 families or 30,000, all of our agencies can count on us as a reliable source of food products.
Food Bank for the Heartland views our agencies as partners in alleviating hunger in Nebraska and western Iowa. The Food Bank distributes almost 7 million pounds of the food through our member agencies. We do not charge for food. Agencies are asked to assist in the cost of collecting, storing and distributing food. Our partner agencies contribute a handling fee of 0 cents to 16 cents per pound, which helps defray these costs. Food Bank for the Heartland also works with our agencies to help them learn and apply appropriate, cost-effective methods for safe food service, handling and distribution.
